RF ovens could change how we cook

WASHINGTON, D.C., 17 FEBRUARY 2017

What if you could prepare an entire meal at once?  Smithsonian magazine covers the RF cooking revolution.  Randy Rieland, a digital media strategist and a contributing writer in innovations, speaks with Yuval Ben-Haim, President of Goji, on the future of RF cooking.

“Beyond cutting cooking time significantly for a wide range of dishes, this method results in tastier and healthier food by cooking it more evenly,” explains Ben-Haim.

Rieland presents that though as many as 90 percent of American homes have a microwave oven, it is mainly used for reheating meals and preparing popcorn.  The magnetron, a common cooking element in every microwave oven, heats food by sending waves into the oven, however it does so in a “shotgun” manner - some parts of food get hot while others stay cold.

Goji solves the issue by using RF technology, a much more accurate heating method.  It makes use of a unique feedback loop which senses the food and adjust RF heating parameters automatically.  In this manner Goji provides a better and healthier cooking option for consumers.  “Beyond cutting cooking time significantly for a wide range of dishes, this method results in tastier and healthier food by cooking it more evenly,” explains Ben-Haim.

About RF Cooking

RF cooking utilizes a high power solid-state amplifier which, as part of a complete RF module, transmits radio wave energy into an object to heat it. Unlike the magnetron in a microwave oven, the digital RF module can accurately control the frequency, amplitude and phase of the radio-waves. When combined with Goji’s proprietary closed-feedback sensing algorithm, the RF module enables more uniform and consistent cooking results, while shortening and simplifying the cooking process.
